Every year, we celebrate the legacy of R.A. Lidstone who was one of the earliest Kendo teachers in Europe, leader of Nenriki Dojo from its inception in 1966 and a person who took particular interest in nurturing beginners.
The Taikai is specifically aimed at kendoka new to the art. All BKA Kyu grades with less than three years’ experience (not including the two year lockdown period of 2020 and 2021) are eligible to participate in the competition. There will be pools of “training Shiai” (Shiai Geiko) with advice on what to do in a Shiai environment. You will get lots of matches. The Taikai will follow afterwards and the day ends with open jigeiko for all – both participants and guests. Finally, there will be refreshments available in the Rising Sun opposite the school.
As always, Dan grades are also warmly invited to contribute their experience on a day dedicated to beginners. We should be most grateful for your help (instruction, refereeing etc) to make it a special day for the beginners. Please bring your bogu for the general practise at the end.
